6 Luxury Textiles That Add
Character To Your Bedroom

1. Down Pillows and Comforters
Down is made of the fine feathers found beneath the tougher exterior feathers of the bird. Down is some of the finest filling you can have for pillows and comforters - light and fluffy and insulating. Feathers on the other hand are used by the bird for flight and to repel water. They are less insulating, and have quills, which can cause them to poke out of the pillow.
We love that down and feather can always be fluffed back to its original form, unlike many man-made fillers that get matted over time.
2. Linen Sheets
Linen is a textile made from the interior stem of the flax plant. It is immensely popular in Europe and rapidly gaining popularity in the U.S. as we are beginning to realize its durability and unique properties.
The wrinkles of linen catch the light in different ways adding visual interest to the room. Every piece has a unique texture giving it a beautiful structure and casual elegance. It manages to have seemingly conflicting characteristics which make it incredibly interesting! - rough and raw, and soft and smooth. Delicate and strong. Complex yet simple. In our opinion it can't be beat!
The best linen comes from France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. We try to avoid linen manufactured in China as we have seen very mixed quality. Check out www.blackearthlinen.com - our linen is made from French flax and is expertly woven in Portugal.

3. Wool Rug
Wool is a natural fiber clipped from animals such as sheep, alpaca, and goats. It is a hard wearing material and looks timeless as well. It is easy to clean and can literally last centuries if well cared for. We LOVE antique Navajo rugs, Persian rugs, and in general rugs with a tribal design. Go for a low pile rug for easy cleaning. We love hunting for affordable vintage wool rugs on Ebay!
4. Wool Bed Blanket
If you can afford to splurge on a wool bed blanket, it is the ultimate luxury and looks incredibly rich. Its exclusive properties will give you light, breathable comfort that will keep you warm and cozy on cold winter nights! It does not conduct heat which allows the body to keep its temperature. Keep in mind that wool must be spot cleaned and cannot be machine washed. For this reason we like to use a wool bed blanket on top of our flat sheet to keep it clean. Avoid "washable" wool as it is often treated with chemicals.

5. Leather
Leather's natural markings and subtle texture variations add visual interest. It is tough and hard wearing and extremely durable. A unique leather chair adds fun and character to a room. A leather bed headboard is another great way to add richness. Or go small and find a leather throw pillow! Try to incorporate a small touch of leather somewhere in your bedroom!
6. One of a Kind Throw Pillow
Throw pillows are a great way to add seasonality to your space. Embrace winter with a lambswool pillow, embrace spring with a bright and cheery colored pillow. We like feather filled best since we don't care about throw pillows insulating properties. Feather is less expensive than down but still offer the fluffability that keeps them looking new year after year. We are in love with throw pillows made from vintage turkish kilim rugs that we find very reasonable priced on Ebay!
